Date: 2010-06-07 04:06 am (UTC)Your vid makes me love the boys again as only an excellent fanwork can. Antidote to much of the meh of S5 by focusing on its best and most beautiful and horrible moments.
I feel kind of hollow after watching it. Great stuff.

Man, I bawled in the cinema when that happened, too.
you could read it as gen, but why would you want to?
Heh. That text is not very subby.

Date: 2010-06-08 06:13 pm (UTC)I will insert my usual disclaimer about how I have not seen very much SPN, but I loved the smoothness of the editing--I think my favorite moments were the fireworks on "the stars align" and the Impala (?) on "wheels." Tender, yet with a disturbing undercurrent with Sam doing strange things to people (demons?) and the blood and so on.
I am not sure how one could possibly read this as gen. :-)
Also, did they just jump into the abyss or something at the very end? Love binds us even unto hell, something like that?

Date: 2010-06-08 06:20 pm (UTC)I take that as a compliment.
I'm really glad you enjoyed the editing, even without knowing the show very well - and yeah, I guess it is a mix of tender and disturbing, which to me matched the tone of the song, which is tender but there's sadness there, too.
Only Sam jumped into the abyss - into Hell - with another character. Sam allowed himself to be possessed by Lucifer so that he could take control, jump into Hell, and thereby trap Lucifer. Dean was left behind. The expectation was that Sam would then have to remain in Hell forever, but at the very end of the season finale, we see that Sam has somehow gotten out of Hell - some indeterminable amount of time later - and now apparently has some kind of new magical powers. To be continued next season.... So, less about the two bound for all eternity than about Sam sacrificing himself for

Date: 2010-06-08 06:26 pm (UTC)I just went and rewatched "A Charming Man" because I wanted my very very specialized SPN fix. I like getting to know the show through the lens of your vids, actually--I can tell myself such interesting hypothetical stories about what's going on just based on the vid.

Date: 2010-06-10 03:23 pm (UTC)Just wanted to say I love this and have already watched it 100 zillion times, getting teary eyed every time. The thing about a vid like this is that, up to a point, I get more emotional over it the more I watch it.
the truth, you'd say,
Is I like them there that way
Sammy!!! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Date: 2010-06-10 03:34 pm (UTC)And yes, I love that line too! In the song itself, I think it's intentionally ambiguous in an interesting way as to who "I" is. Is the singer saying that you, dear, prefer that I have knives in my heart? Or is the singer saying that you, dear, would accuse me of masochistically wanting the knives in my own heart?
Anyway, I'm really glad you're enjoying the vid - thank you!

Date: 2010-06-10 07:04 pm (UTC)I hesitated a lot before commenting on this, but since it really upset me:
Pairing: Sam/Dean (you could read it as gen, but why would you want to?)
One of the reasons I backed away from SPN fandom even when I was still watching the show was the pervasiveness of Wincest, to the point that it was assumed that if you were a slash fan, of course you were into Wincest, and most people seemed to think nothing of it. Hell, when I started watching, I thought I would be into Wincest for the long haul. Only, over time it started to really bother, and then completely squick me.
At this point, I find it really upsetting (and still unavoidable, if only in passing mention), and to have it casually implied that my perspective is so unthinkable that I shouldn't even want to not conceive of brothers fucking is distressing.
If I were primarily a gen fan, I think I'd find it even more dismissive and insulting. Can you imagine the reaction if someone put a vid or story out there with the tag: "Gen. you could read it as Sam/Dean, but why would you want to?"

Date: 2010-06-10 07:08 pm (UTC)I also think the reverse situation is not the same, because while there is the incest aspect to Sam/Dean, there's also the gay aspect, and a reverse sort of tag could easily be read as a disparagement of queer readings of the text. It's not on equal footing.
That said, I absolutely did not intend to imply that there is anything unthinkable or problematic or otherwise negative about being squicked by Wincest, and I'm sorry that my post made you feel that way.
