Okay, so I finally went and splattered my fannish glee about this show all over a vid. And, fair warning, the vid is really quite spoilery for, well, my favorite bits anyway.

Obvious song choice is obvious....

Notes:

The Inside was a police procedural television series that aired on Fox in the summer of 2005. Thirteen episodes were produced but only seven were shown in America; the remaining episodes aired a year later in Britain. The show, created by Tim Minear and Howard Gordon, chronicled the work of an elite FBI unit devoted to tracking down serial killers and other violent criminals. The show starred Peter Coyote as Virgil "Web" Webster, the ruthless and manipulative team leader; Rachel Nichols as Rebecca Locke, a brilliant rookie profiler with a mysterious traumatic past; and Jay Harrington as Paul Ryan, an investigator deeply disturbed by Web's methods. These three characters were at the heart of the series; additionally (though not included in this vid), the show featured Adam Baldwin (Firefly) and Nelsan Ellis (True Blood) as other members of the unit, and guest-starred Amber Benson, Michael Emerson, Chad Lindberg, Keith Szarabajka, and Zeljko Ivanek.

aaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. That vid feels like cold gloves pressed against the small of my back, gently folding against the curves of my spine, and rising up.

My favorite moment has to be that moment at ... 00:40? I'm so bad with timing - after "to make this life livable", when Web nods in agreement with the lyric, which is both sad, and poignant, and so fucking terrifying.

It's interesting how often Paul swallows himself before he can look Web in the eye, too - nervousness, fear, everyone but Web's so destabilized and shellshocked, and the worst of it is that it's clear Web has been there and already come out the other side and they can't reckon with knowing there's a Web in them just waiting to be pushed hard enough to wake up; can't because they need it. Even as that knowledge leaves them feeling half-numb, like pins and needles over every inch of their skin.

Absolutely chilling.

Hee - I'm delighted I gave you the chills! :-) And yeah, it's clear that Web has some kind of fascinating backstory but the show ended before we could ever find out what that was *sob*! But I'm so glad you felt the vid captured Web and the relationships - thank you!

You nailed thenot so slight creepiness of Web and Rebecca, and the way it infects everyone and everything around them. Rebecca's loneliness and her outsiderness are really there as are her weird defense mechanisms and the way Paul is simultaneously fascinated and repulsed by them.

Thank you for capturing all that and brilliantly condensing and...the song's great for that reading and focus :)

Thank you so much! I cannot stand how much I love Web, Paul, and Rebecca and the way they relate to each other, and the way "normal" Paul just cannot stop being drawn to Web and Rebecca's bizarreness. I am so happy you felt the vid captured it!

Oh, this is so interesting, and makes me want to rewatch the series. I haven't seen it since it aired on tv here, and probably missed a few eps then, so my recollection of specifics is very sketchy, but my main memory of it is how deeply disturbing it is that Web in a way perpetuates Rebecca's childhood trauma in order to make her what he wishes her to be, and you capture that very well here. Excellent work as ever!

Thank you! I'm glad you thought it captured their relationship - I mean, for me, the series is about Web, Rebecca, and Paul, and their attraction/repulsion and how their deeply weird interdependence. Just saw this and my first thought was "this series was so much creepier than anything SPN has done"! I hadn't thought much about this series since it aired but I think you capture here all the undertones that a promised a complex and thoroughly dark storyline.
