Ditto to this

Buck Up, Democrats, and Fight Like Republicans

We're doomed because the Democrats are staggeringly weak-willed. Donald Trump is a cartoon villain who is rising to power on the back of a foreign dictator who attacked our electoral process, who is appointing comical, mustache-twirling villains to his cabinet posts, and the Democrats are fucking silent. In some cases, people call their congresspeople and are told directly, hey, we're in the minority, nothing we can do.

Yes, there is - you can insist on loudly, publicly resisting, at every opportunity, as a unified wall, reminding everyone that Dems won popular vote (and the most Senate votes), Trump's entirely illegitimate, etc. Keep the Republicans constantly on the defensive, file court challenges to gum up everything Trump wants to do including getting the election results certified - make it difficult to impossible for Trump to do anything because his administration is mired in ongoing disputes. That's what the GOP fucking did to Obama and he won the popular vote, decisively - the reason Trump has so many judicial spots available to him is because the GOP refused to let Obama govern.

But ... fucking crickets, man. If Democrats can't find a way to fight this fundamental threat to America, they are useless.

All I see are rumblings about 2020. 2020? Are you kidding? There aren't going to be elections in 2020. Trump hasn't even gotten into office and he's already threatening to eliminate early voting. Once we have the next terrorist attack on US soil - and that's inevitable, and it'll come under the Trump administration - this country will be locked down like a damn prison. And it's like the Dems can't, or won't, see it.

Yeah, it's somewhat pathetic, that there aren't any signs of real institutional obstructionism. Kind of looks like anticipatory obedience... (is that a term in English? in German it's "vorauseilender Gehorsam" to describe this phenomenon where in an authoritarian system people fold and try to please and obey even before there is any actual pressure or orders, in hopes that there will be less problems if they look compliant and eager to work...)

Though at least I've read somewhere that some federal agency (I think it was the Department of Energy) refused to compile lists of people involved with climate change research Trump's team wanted so that Trump could go about cleansing the department more easily...

Well, I suppose some English phrase/term for the phenomenon will become established soon enough. It looks like it'll be needed.

I mean, it's common enough group behavior for humans, but it's kind of still kind of depressing, especially since it's also already from people who aren't affiliated with Trump. I mean, you'd have hoped Democrats would have had their own peer pressure to counter stuff at least for a while. :/

Everyone's meeting him and making nice and smiling! Including Al Gore. Which just enraged me. And I like Al Gore.

I hear everyone going "Wait until 2020" and it just baffles me. He's not even in office and it's already a disaster.

Also, I think morale is going to plummet after he is in office. I don't even want to think where people might be at after four years of this fucker.

Fuck 2020, I'm worried we won't have midterms in 2018. Not to mention the incessant gerrymandering that's only going to get worse and keeps growing faster than the courts seem inclined to stop it.

(caveat: I live in NC, I am VERY BITTER about the gerrymandering even if we do get, allegedly, a redo on the district drawing granted by the courts. maybe.)

I know someone who ran for office in a red district in a red state a few years ago as a Dem. I asked her if she was going to get involved in the Washington state party (having been involved in getting people to vote during the election) now that she lives here and she basically said fuck no, the party is in shambles and a nightmare. It's all the Bernie Bros and they're aggressively terrible to the Hillary supporters, shout them down, attack them, because if she'd been the better candidate she wouldn't have lost, etc. And they refuse to move forward and do anything, preferring to float unrealistic bullshit proposals instead of focusing on the fight ahead.

I'm so angry still I can't eat half the time, I can't sleep. I'm filled with dread and they're all just sitting there like assholes because they want to keep their cushy jobs and fabulous benefits and not do any actual work. And fucking Bernie does nothing to deal with his legacy and try to make a difference with the idiots who won't let go.

I don't think we know each other--looking at your DW it seems we have some very tangential shared fandoms--but if you're in the Seattle area maybe we should get in touch? I keep thinking there may come a time when knowing humans in geographic proximity may be useful/necessary.

My only hope is that once he's in office and actually enacting shit, they'll wake up and turn up for the fight.
