Oh yikes

So all over Tumblr I'd seen these references to something that happened at a New Jersey SPN convention, involving Jensen Ackles somehow doing/saying something homophobic, but I couldn't figure out the specifics. Someone finally posted the details to Fandom Wank. Although I should warn, it isn't wanky at all - it's just awful and depressing.

Edit: And now I'm not sure the FW post is entirely accurate - it's possible it confused two different people. FW links to this at the end, but there's also this post, from someone else.

It's here it's here!

So, for the longest time, [livejournal.com profile] counteragent has been working on a live action Supernatural fanfilm, with script by Naomi Novik. And the first five minutes are here!

You can watch it at the website. The production values are really incredible, you'd never guess it's her first film. Yay!

SPN Freaks and Geeks

I loved that, mostly because I love Chrissy and I love Dean and Chrissy, and the only seriously awful note was -

Okay, yes.

This is, in fact, the most perfect thing ever to perfect. (What I find so great about these fake trailer vids isn't just the way they use the original source, but the way they deconstruct movie trailer formats. That's almost the best part.)

My God, Arrow, you're still a terrible show

but your casting is unbelievable.

The Borg Queen, Captain Jack, Crixus, Lincoln Lee, Gaius Baltar, Helo, Ruby, Harry Dresden, Jackson Whittemore, River Song - it's like you're doing a marathon through All the Fandoms.

(Also, is there Oliver/Felicity yet?)

My God, Scandal

I have to say, as mind-numbingly dull as a find the central romance between Olivia and Fitz, I am absolutely fascinated by how this show has managed to make heroes out of villains and vice versa. The protagonists are doing absolutely awful things, and I care what happens to them but I also want to see them all thrown in jail for a very long time.

LARP and the Real Girl

I don't know that I've had this much fun watching an episode of Supernatural in years.

Hee!

So today is More Joy Day

Details.

Unfortunately, between Festivids and Real Life, all I am able to offer is a selection of links to things I saw on Tumblr that gave me joy.

The Les Mis thing (which is a lot like the Merlin thing)

Princess Avengers (the Pocahontas one is perfection itself)

This cat

These pandas

I would buy this in a heartbeat

This keyboard modification

These women

Katharine Hepburn in Holiday (which is an awesome movie, but they cut the best line from the play)

Castiel vs. Captain America

Old and new. And another one

I want to attend this

Suddenly my childhood love of Barbie is rekindled

Sigh.

Generally, all other things being equal, I prefer canon stories (or "canon AU" - canon changed just enough to, say, create a happy ending instead of tragedy, XMFC), but there are plenty of AUs in plenty of fandoms that I have enjoyed tremendously.

That said, if you write an AU of a character whose entire personality is defined by a specific set of overwhelming traumas (Dean Winchester, Erik Lensherr, Derek Hale), and you want to keep basically the same characterization, you've really got to come up with some explanation for it. A different trauma will do; otherwise, they're just going to end up somewhere between diva and psycho killer.

I feel so sorry for this DA

I have no idea if he's a good DA or a bad DA, but if he loses his position, I hope it's because of his performance as a DA, and not because of his performances for a little while as a 1970s porn actor. I mean, wasn't everyone a porn actor for a little while in the 70s?

And now, I await the J2 version.
