And like everyone else, my reaction to that ending is - wow.

Except also, I spent the last ten minutes wondering if they would ever. stop. talking.

But still wow.

Annie is far and away my favorite character, and I'm beginning to recognize that I definitely have a thing for these sort of ditzy-appearing female characters who develop core strengths and power over time. Like, also, Cordelia on Angel (in that brief space between Queen Bitch and Saint Cordie), and Caroline on Vampire Diaries.

Anyway, here, have a wonderful Being Human vid, spoilers for all three seasons, focusing on Mitchell, George, Annie, and their relationship to each other.

Also, a fascinating meta comparing UK's Mitchell to US's Aidan, based in part on the cultural understanding of the wars their characters, respectively, fought.

Appropos of nothing, I keep seeing this "Thirty Female Characters" meme on my FList and I want to play but I really don't have time to do a long post with pictures for each one. I just kind of want to say - favorite female antagonist, Diana of V. Favorite nonhuman, Illyria of Angel. Favorite older woman, Madeline of LFN and Madeline of Burn Notice. Favorite from a children's show, Alexandra of Josie and the Pussycats. Okay, now you know.

comments

How is it that whenever Stefan is in a scene that does not include Elena (or Katherine), he becomes like 10 billion times more interesting? It's like those actors have an anti-chemistry that sucks the life out of any scene they share. Also -

( Spoilers )

comments

(At minimum, they might notice that TVP promo posters are essentially selling a Damon/Elena/Stefan threesome.) Or maybe they could have included other shows, like Serena and Blair from Gossip Girl, or Rizzoli and Isles.

As for hottest vampire romances? Sure, I'll give you Buffy/Angel and Buffy/Spike, but you'd have to be willfully blind to miss Angel/Spike.

That with this target audience, they can't come up with even a single non-heterosexual couple is just ... depressing.

comments

If I knew how, I'd be putting up pictures of her decorated with pink sparkly hearts.

I still 'ship Bonnie/Damon like whoah, but in all honesty, the most romantic scene in the season premiere was between Damon and Stefan.

For a brief moment I was so excited because I thought ( Spoilers )

but, sadly, no.

Next week looks like fun!

comments

Okay, so by now I've seen most - though not all - of the Festivids, because I was lucky enough to get a head start :-) (yes, I know who made them, okay? I KNOW). And I am not kidding when I say you should watch each and every one of them. I'm really quite amazed at how consistently good they all are (although in wildly different ways). And the source! I mean, there are vids with this gorgeous source you've never seen before, and then ugly-as-hell source but dear God, remember when television looked like that? And then there're all the vids to sources you always thought would make an amazing vid, and now you know - or source where you think my god, why didn't I realize how amazing that would be to vid, or source where, you'd have sworn it was unviddable, but you would be wrong, and just plain source where there are a few existing vids but you knew there needed to be more and hey! Now there are.

But this isn't like Yuletide, where there are something like 500 million stories, so that you can do a rec list of 100 and it's still not obvious which one's yours. If I went through and rec'd everything I loved, I'd essentially be outing myself. So I can't do that (unless I was wily and rec'd myself, which ... I am not going to do). So I'm saving a bunch of recs until after the reveal.

For now, though, I can't help but jump up and down and squee about just a teeny taste of what's good. And I can't emphasize this enough: it doesn't matter if you don't know the source. Hell, I don't know the source for many of these - you still should watch them.

I have to start with the vid that was made just for me: Sleepwalker (Profit). I love this show, which is about <strike>how pretty Adrian Pasdar is</strike> how a man who was literally raised by television as a child turned into a soulless monster who schemes his way through the corporate world. This vid is perfectly Profit - it's creepy and spooky and weird and in a million years I would never have paired Adam Lambert with this show but wow, that totally works. Like, not even in a cracky way - it works for real.

Other vids you should totally watch while you're, you know, watching everything:

( Recs below the cut )

comments

Yes, I am old enough to ask a question about teenagers today. American teens, let's say 14-18.

When I was a teen, teens did not drink coffee. I didn't start drinking coffee until sometime in my college years, and that was universally true of all teens of my acquaintance.

However, I did notice that at some point, teens started to come to Starbucks, which only really started getting big after I became a coffee drinker. As though it was Starbucks, and things like mochas and lattes and whatnot, that was attracting teens to start drinking coffee earlier. I remember, in fact, back when Starbucks was just becoming a phenomenon, noticing teen presence and being a little startled by it.

Today, I don't know any teens. But in TV portrayals of them, they seem to drink coffee all the time.

So here's my question: Do American teens today really drink coffee regularly and, if so, can we blame Starbucks?

This post brought to you by a rewatch of The Vampire Diaries pilot. (Speaking of which, I think my main 'ship in this fandom is Damon/Bonnie. By default, really, because they're the only remotely interesting characters on the show. Damon/that sheriff lady might be cool but I'd have to go into severe denial that he'd ever slept with her daughter.)

comments
