Everyone and her mother tells me I have to read Subtilior's epic Erik/Charles AU, Nine Eleven Ten, except that it's 277,000 words and it's less than halfway finished.

I don't think I can stand the pain!

I need character redemption for sure. And then there's the worry that the author's version of redemption won't match my own. I feel bad not being able to read the most popular fic in the fandom, but there are just too many question marks hanging over it. I need to know what I'm getting into, and I need to be assured it'll be finished in a timly and happy manner. My sense of entitlement, let me show you it. *g*

I too need the happy at the end!

Word. That's what I love about fanfic, that the chances of a happy ending are much higher than in original fic. YA in particular seems to have a terrible track record with that, with surprise unhappy ending plot twists. Not long ago I read some historical YA and one of the main characters survived a whole bunch of stuff where his chances were very poor, only to die near the end of dysentery after all.

OMG, who would write something like that? I'd be asking for my money back. God, that would break me.

Well, to be fair it was a quite likely death and rather plausible, and since the historical period was Holocaust/WWII you don't really expect happy endings, however after that teenage character in the book first managed to hide and not end up in a KZ with his parents, then survived carpet bombing while not having the paper to be allowed access to the shelter, and so on with all kinds of narrow escapes, only to die two years after the end of the war of dysentery in a Soviet camp...well I didn't expect him to die at that point, you know?
