Can anyone recommend me good Captain America fic? Specifically, fic that takes place post-movie, and that focuses on -



Steve's character, and his adjustment to the modern world? I'd also love it if the story 'shipped him with someone, though I don't particularly care who with.


And yes, this post is inspired by Tomorrow Belongs to Me, of which I am about halfway through - Steve/Tony doesn't do anything for me, really, but I am loving the Steve characterization.

ETA: Also? There isn't any always-a-girl!Steve fic out there, by any chance, is there?

Yep, there's about 50 years of main continuity (covering telescoped 10ish years of actual time for the characters) with a great deal of... yeah. I've been enjoying the Steve/Tony! Even without having any comics background and pretty much learning everything by fannish osmosis. Eventually I even learned that I prefer to avoid Ultimates unless heavily AU'd.

ETA my icon just reminded me that the Steve adjusts to the future story I want to write involves Lady Gaga. I just thought I'd throw that out there.

It's kind of a founder effect thing. Avengers ficcing fandom proper was started by a pair of Captain America / Iron Man comic ficcers, and people came in for their fics and it snowballed from there. So a lot of the first people writing Movieverse Avengers are from the comics / cartoons fandom, and just writing the same pairing they usually do.

And then other people read it, and write the same pairing they've read other people writing...

It'll probably diversify as more people brought in from the movies write fic, and once the Avengers movie comes out. Tony/Pepper wasn't a thing until the Iron Man movies came out and it really blew up huge thereafter.

TLDR If you write it, they will come.

Well, the Tony/Pepper thing I get - it was right there in the movies. The reason Steve/Tony had me baffled was that we hadn't even seen the movie yet - I thought it was based on, like, a promo and some behind-the-scenes pics, and just people thinking Chris Evans and RDJ are hot.
