So it's obvious to anyone reading that I've been smacked hard with the XMFC obsession for the time being, so of course I started on a vid, which is just incredibly frustrating because there isn't that much footage (even with all the movies included) and I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that by the time it's finished, pretty much everything that can be done with this footage will have been done already. (Honestly, [personal profile] danegen pretty much said anything I'd want to say with Perfect Drug, which just leaves me breathless no matter how many times I watch it). And yet I can't stop myself. This is what addiction looks like.

Sigh.

Meanwhile, VVC posted the vid show listings and there's one new vid in one of the shows that - well, as far as I'm concerned, life has now frozen in place and will remain in stasis until that vid comes on line and I get to see it.

*chinhands*

Have fun, VVC people!

Mind you, I love the concept of the two of them more than I loved XMFC per se. But, yes, I do think there's more to be said, and I've no doubt you'll be saying at least some of it with your vid. So hang in there.

I hope so - but there are at least three or four more Erik/Charles vids coming out of VVC alone, as far as I can tell, and I know that one or two of them definitely use all the movies (possibly more). I'm sort of afraid - do I watch them, or no? I really want to see them- Erik! Charles! By awesome vidders! But what's seen cannot be unseen and I'll either be copying them or vidding around them (even if I had the same idea all by myself!). So it's a dilemma.

And yes, I know what you mean about the small fandoms. Made a couple myself, and it's definitely a great joy to express my love in this footage that's not overused, but then, there's only a very small audience for that.

And you're right - the solution, as I'm coming to terms with, is just to say - fuck it, this is my vid because I feel passionately about this song and these characters and I want to make it because I want to see it. But it's sometimes a tough mindset to maintain.

*nods* Often when I write a new fandom for the first time, I don't want to read other people's fic, because I want to stick with that pure sense of the characters that is all my own. Which, because I'm such a slow writer, tends to mean that I miss the whole first wave of fannish excitement and I never read much fic at all. It's a trade-off, and I'm not sure it makes sense or is worth it. It seems to be how my brain works best, though.

It is a tough mindset to maintain - making a vid simply because it's what you want to make - but then the thing is, right now, there is this flood of X-Men vids, and some are good and some are crap, and many are in some ways very similar. But we're still in the first rush of OMG NEW FANDOM. It's only when the dust have settled on that that we'll know which vids are the great ones that will last. And that's not about how unique a vidder's use of any given footage is; it's about the artistic qualities of the whole, which is far more intangible. So, you know, I think all the vids are worth making, because you can't know until after the fact which ones are the keepers. If that makes any sense at all.
