if posting a list of "finished fics for which I most want to see a sequel" would come off as insulting, rather than flattering, to the authors.

Hmmm....

i doubt any of my fic would be on your list, but just speaking for myself, no, I would not be insulted if people said something like that about my fic. my opinion is go for it!

i only get upset when people treat the fic like potato chips. not that it's some six course gourmet meal or something; I'm not THAT stuck on myself, but to have someone tell me they'd love a sequl is certainly a compliment.

getting hounded would be a drag, though. esp. if the author knows the fic is done, and there aint' no more. *ponders*

I think most people I know would be pleased and interested, especially if it weren't just a bare list of titles, but included a few lines about what you're itching for more of, or what questions got raised that you think merit big answers.

I think it can potentially come off as annoying, especially if it is one of those stories for which authors constantly get asked whether there will be a sequel, and they said they aren't going to provide one, because they think whatever ending it has would loose through a sequel and the readers are missing their artistic point or whatever. However I think anyone taking this as an "insult" needs to get a grip, and acknowledge that that impulse is a normal reader reaction.

I've seen it a couple of times that in story posts almost every other comment had a request for a sequel, even when author's notes said it was to stand alone. But otoh in those cases the authors knew that the readers wouldn't be satisfied with the ending as it was, so I figure they just need to deal. I mean, you just can't preemptively stop certain kinds of feedback. You may try like the author's notes saying things like "nice feedback only" but in the end that's not for the author to control.

This your list would be different from asking for sequels in comments, I think: You do it in your own space and don't push them in theirs; you draw attention to the stories and, more than anything, recommend them to others - hey, presumably, you wouldn't bother wishing for sequels to stories you hadn't found worthy. & ;-)

But then, I'm the kind of writer who at heart cherishes all sorts of interest and interaction, from criticism to incoherent pleas for more.

I'm pretty sure just about anything anyone writes will be taken as an insult by someone, somewhere, so I think you should post whatever you want.
