Okay, leaving aside ... everything else -



There's something fundamentally ... cowardly ... about having a plot point where a sinister government decides to sacrifice the "low-performing" children who are "burdens" on the public, who live in the "bad" areas, who "everyone knows" will not amount to anything, and then to feature endless terrifying shots of the military carting away -- a bunch of white kids.

I suspect that in Russell Davies' world, 'low-performing'= working class, e.g. Ianto's family, but the show was not consistent on this.

Yeah, there's actually an extensive discussion of this at my LJ crosspost, featuring many UK residents who disagree with me about the necessity of showing busloads of PoC kids being carted away, but who do, I think, agree that class markers weren't really used either (I noticed the lack of obvious class markers, as well, but I didn't want to remark on it because I wasn't sure I was interpreting UK standards correctly - according to actual Wales residents, I was.)
