New LJ creepiness

Apparently when IP logging is on, there will also be a display of the commenter's city, and this will happen on old comments as well as new ones going forward.

What? How does that even work? I mean, I realize there is some IP/location correlation, and that you can look that up in online services, but they are not always correct. A couple of times I've looked up my location from my IP and it put me in odd places. Mostly not *too* far away on a global scale, but not always the right city.
