So I've turned off LJ commenting for new posts until comment notifications are working again - and I gather that may be a very long time.

(And no, LJ, I will not change my email provider because you cannot get it together to make your goddamn service work properly. It's your responsibility to make your service work with major email providers, not the responsibility of your users to use your preferred email addresses. And also? I like AOL. That's right, you heard me. I like AOL for a very specific reason and I'm not going to change it. Also, I tried the thing where I direct LJ email to a gmail account, and have gmail forward to AOL. It doesn't work - AOL hates LJ so much that it won't even accept forwards from gmail.)

So. I really hope people who read me on LJ won't be dissuaded from commenting on Dreamwidth - you can comment anonymously, or with Open ID, or! You can set up a Dreamwidth account, and, if you like, use it only to comment on Dreamwidth posts. Here are some codes:

Hope to see you over there!

I still get LJ notifications, but 95% of them are for spam comments in my journal, because apparently they have no spam controls anywhere. It's no wonder they get mistaken for spammers if so many of their notifications have links to spam sites in them. I get four or five every day, even though I only allow anon comments with captcha there since it got so bad and screen them. I have half a mind to go through all the old entries that get the most spam and freeze comments, or automatically just freeze comments on all posts older than some months except for maybe the art posts, just to have this annoying deluge stop. Only I'm too lazy, and there's no mass editing for that freezing afaik.

Yeah, there is an option to screen all comments with links, but I already screen all anon comments anyway, and you get notifications for them. I wish they just had a system like Wordpress that screens spam and doesn't give you notifications for likely spam comment but just filters them in the spam folder. I get few genuine comments on my fanart blog, but I have many hundreds of spam in my folder whenever I look there, but it doesn't land in my email like the real comments. Never once got one through. I mean, LJ has an inbox too where you see comments too, why don't they make a spam folder there like WP and only send email for comments that don't show signs of being spam?

where I direct LJ email to a gmail account, and have gmail forward to AOL. It doesn't work

Ugh, sorry to hear about that. :-\ It worked for me to have Gmail forward to Yahoo, plus, I added the LJ notify address to both Gmail and Yahoo's contact lists. I know others were pimping Gmail, but I like the folder feature of Yahoo and I know AOL also has a folder feature as well. I know Gmail has an 'archive' and 'label' feature, but I'm accustomed to folders. Although, folk were having different results from using the *same* methods/email providers.

I think your tag of 'LJ comedy' is very appropriate.
