Not just in how fandom structures itself, but in how fandom relates to its sources: our reading of canon creates our concept of the source, which puts that source into a particular context that builds upon itself as the source progresses. It may not be the context TPTB intended or desired, but it's a context that creates a centre around which fandom can create itself. [/random thought]
