More:
Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) implored Colbert to simply enter his testimony into the record without speaking.

Some in the room gasped. Colbert muttered into the mic: “No hablo Ingles,” before straightening up and asking Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), the subcommittee chairwoman, if she’d prefer if he left the room.

She did not.

Colbert began speaking after Conyers withdrew his request...

I read the article but this made me go o_O:
"Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.) defended Colbert's appearance, noting that Republican-led committees had invited celebrities such as Elmo the muppet to testify in the past."

Elmo!? You accept testimony by imaginary felt monsters?

In the future whenever someone talks about how out of touch with reality politics was, I'm going to think of this.

Okay, I just had to look that up. Sadly, it is not on Youtube. BUT.

CNN asked for his reaction to the big news of the day -- senior White House aide Karen Hughes's resignation to go back to Texas."That's wonderful!" he exclaimed. "That means her children are very, very important to her, maybe more important than the president. That's wonderful. Elmo loves you very much, Ms. Karen and you are a wonderful mother."

ELMO, I NEVER LIKED YOU, AND NOW I KNOW WHY, YOU PATRIARCHAL REACTIONARY PIECE OF FELT.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was about arts/PBS funding.

I still feel like arts funding shouldn't be decided based on opinion of muppets, especially not muppets that are supposed to be toddler-aged. Couldn't they at least have asked Kermit?!? He has experience with running a struggling theater show after all, plus all that experience as reporter...

That reminds me of when Kermit was on Nightline to explain the stock market to Ted Koppel. No, really.

It's really uncomfortable for me to watch someone being incredibly funny in front of an audience refusing to crack a smile. Colbert has been a hero of mine since the Press Club thing he did back in the Bush era. The man has balls of steel.

I am getting whiplash from that article's contradictions.

Comedian Stephen Colbert commandeered a hearing on migrant farm workers with lewd one-liners (...)

(...) his off-color rant (...)

Colbert’s comedic rant (...) was a bland, seemingly straightforward speech on migrant workers in America.
