I did like it, especially the end, but so far, it's got nothing on the USA series.

The NYT Nikita review called it darker than the USA series - which only goes to show they never saw the USA series.

Maggie Q was very good and I like her in the role, but the thing is, I loved Peta Wilson. And I think I also loved what this new Nikita simply doesn't have - the idea from the original series that Nikita knew that most of the time she was acting for the greater good, but couldn't stand the sacrifices that had to be made along the way. Now, LFN eventually went quite downhill, but in its early days, that fundamental morality problem was at the heart of the show, and Peta Wilson did an excellent job of portraying her character's moral dilemmas. And I think the new Nikita's motivation - revenge for her dead lover (and right now I call it that he's not really dead) - is a lot less compelling than the old Nikita's emotional turmoil.

I think Shane West is just about as boring and unattractive as Roy Dupuis, so that's six of one half dozen of the other - does West remind anyone else of Brian Austin Green, by the way?

I vastly preferred the original Madeline and Operations. Before LFN got annoying, Madeline was such a fascinating character - at least as hard-edged as Operations, but with a heart, or at least, capable of pretending she had one. The new Amanda doesn't have the poise and presence of the old Madeline. And this new Operations-like-guy - Percy? Perry? whatever - well, it's a matter of taste, but I just liked the old actor so much more.

The best part of the reboot for me is this wonderfully intriguing relationship between Alex and Nikita, so I am definitely looking forward to that. And maybe Alex will develop some of the old moral conflicts that were so attractive about LFN.

I've only seen the first 15 minutes of the pilot so far, but I had similar reactions -- I want to like it, but I really loved Peta Wilson & Alberta Watson's Madeline, so it was hard for me not to make comparisons.

The set up of the new series reminded me a bit of that two-parter in LFN where Nikita meets the "mother" of Section, who wants Nikita to help her destroy it -- those were amazing episodes.

I'm not sure how this new version will sustain itself over time unless Nikita herself is eventually somehow brought back inside, or maybe recruited into a rival spy organization. But I'm willing to give it a shot.
