A question about Doctor Who's Beast Below and Torchwood

So, for those who know canon better than I do - is there any reason to think that the star whale in Beast Below is the same creature from Torchwood's Meat?

I don't think so, the creature in Torchwood didn't have tentacles like the star whale so it doesn't seem likely (unless they'd cut off the tentacles before, but then surely they have grown back the way the rest of its flesh did) that they're the same species. Even if they were the same species it couldn't be the same one because the one in Torchwood dies at the end of the episode.

Oh, I didn't think it was literally the same animal - I meant, the same type of creature. And I didn't think we got a good enough look at it in Meat to be certain it didn't have tentacles - mostly we got an overview and a shot of the head and a shot of the hole in its side, I think?

It was pretty reminiscent, wasn't it? I'd go for yes, myself, because I like continuity that crosses between the two shows.

Star Whale

I have no doubt that the creature from "Meat" was a young star whale. A young star whale may not have developed the tenticles yet. The rapid cellular generation would be how it would quickly grow to such a massive size. The Doctor said it's cry wasn't audible to humans, yet in Torchwood, they could here it. Physiologically speaking, if the vocal system was still underdeveloped it could lower the pitch to be heard by humans.

i believe that the creature in TW:Meat and DW:Beast Below are the same species mostly due to the sound being almost identical and the way the star whale sound is similar and near the end of the whales life in TW:Meat the sound occasionally went above the normal range of human hearing they could even be relatives as well as the same species if you remember the star whale in DW:Beast Below couldn't stand children crying due to a species memory or one of its own.

You mean, maybe it remembered what happened in Meat? That's such a tragic thought!
