The movie is almost 3 hours long and it's got a lot of fat, including seemingly-interminable amounts of philosophical posturing, at least half of which is entirely banal and at least somewhat contradictory. The movie would have been dramatically improved if the excess had been cut, and they'd taken the time to actually weave the non-banal parts of the philosophy into the narrative. I can think of so many ways that the final segment would have had a much more terrifying impact, if there hadn't been so much wasted time up until then.
And my other comment is - and I don't think this is spoilery, either? But I'm putting it behind a cut anyway -
