To anyone who watched the Desperate Housewives series finale

In no universe is Vanessa Williams a size 6.

And it's just - annoying - because for fuck's sake, she's gorgeous, her character is supposed to be incredibly sexy and desirable, so how awesome would it have been if she'd just said she was a size 10 or so, which is, incidentally, still less than average for American women?

No, seriously.

I mean, they're using it as an exercise.

I find this - odd, from a technical standpoint. I agree that fanfic is as good as anything if you're trying to teach, say, basic grammar and punctuation and use of language, which may be the only goal.

But for bigger picture writing exercises - plot, character development, relationships, etc - fanfic is different from other kinds of writing because it assumes a shared background knowledge with the reader. And I don't know if the teachers will be sensitive to that.

Also, do the kids get to write slash?
