Day 12 - A relationship vid you love

One of the earliest vids I ever fell in love with was Lum's Touched (Duncan/Methos). Seeing it while I was deep in the throes of my Highlander obsession was just - overwhelming.

I also find [livejournal.com profile] settiai's The Boxer quite compelling. It's Holmes/Watson/Irene, and something about the song choice and the dynamic she illustrates really gets to me.

Finally for this category I'll rec [livejournal.com profile] sol_se's Red Moon, John Sheppard/Ronon. I love the way she structures the relationship in this vid.

So, let me get this straight. A white, conservative blogger intentionally edits the speech of a black government official in order to create the false impression that government policies in general, and black officials in the Obama administration in particular, are using their power to effectuate an agenda that is racist against white people.

From this, Matt Bai in the New York Times infers that the election of Obama, and liberals and blacks generally, are a major stumbling block to honest discussions of race in this country.

White racism isn't the problem, you understand. The problem is that Obama isn't leading properly, and liberals are too focused on racism in the Tea Party, and - I don't even know how to interpret this:
In some ways, Mr. Obama’s election seems to have further confused the conversation. Some white conservatives may be in no mood to feel contrite about the nation’s racial legacy now that a black man is sitting in the Oval Office. Civil rights groups, meanwhile, are struggling with the question of how to fight racism in a nation led by a president with an African last name.
So ... we should have been more sensitive to white racists by not electing a black person? And I ... do not even know what the point is supposed to be about civil rights groups, except that I think he's saying that the fight for racial equality would have benefitted from not electing our first black president.

I don't even know how to respond to this. It's just a stunning demonstration of how attempts to prove that the problems in this country are attributable to "both sides" are bordering on pathological.
