giandujakiss: (festivids)

Okay, so by now I've seen most - though not all - of the Festivids, because I was lucky enough to get a head start :-) (yes, I know who made them, okay? I KNOW). And I am not kidding when I say you should watch each and every one of them. I'm really quite amazed at how consistently good they all are (although in wildly different ways). And the source! I mean, there are vids with this gorgeous source you've never seen before, and then ugly-as-hell source but dear God, remember when television looked like that? And then there're all the vids to sources you always thought would make an amazing vid, and now you know - or source where you think my god, why didn't I realize how amazing that would be to vid, or source where, you'd have sworn it was unviddable, but you would be wrong, and just plain source where there are a few existing vids but you knew there needed to be more and hey! Now there are.

But this isn't like Yuletide, where there are something like 500 million stories, so that you can do a rec list of 100 and it's still not obvious which one's yours. If I went through and rec'd everything I loved, I'd essentially be outing myself. So I can't do that (unless I was wily and rec'd myself, which ... I am not going to do). So I'm saving a bunch of recs until after the reveal.

For now, though, I can't help but jump up and down and squee about just a teeny taste of what's good. And I can't emphasize this enough: it doesn't matter if you don't know the source. Hell, I don't know the source for many of these - you still should watch them.

I have to start with the vid that was made just for me: Sleepwalker (Profit). I love this show, which is about how pretty Adrian Pasdar is how a man who was literally raised by television as a child turned into a soulless monster who schemes his way through the corporate world. This vid is perfectly Profit - it's creepy and spooky and weird and in a million years I would never have paired Adam Lambert with this show but wow, that totally works. Like, not even in a cracky way - it works for real.

Other vids you should totally watch while you're, you know, watching everything:

Vids with amazing energy - fast-paced, glorious timing, and that perfect sense of when to speed up, when to rest, and when to hit the punchline: Feel It (So You Think You Can Dance), Here it Goes Back Again (Back to the Future trilogy), Holiday (Dark Angel)

Vids that scared the living shit out of me: The Transported Man (The Prestige), Passenger Fever (Twin Peaks), Afraid of Americans (Watchmen), Never Be (Criminal Minds).

Vids that made me care about characters I didn't care about before: Me & My 424 (Dark Angel), No Fate (FlashForward) (honestly, I don't care about anyone on that show, which is why I find the show so dull, but now I guess I have to care about at least one character)

A vid that made me love a character I already loved even more: Names (The Vampire Diaries)

(Sidebar: [livejournal.com profile] greensilver's original vidder had to default, and [livejournal.com profile] yhlee put out a last-minute call for a pinch hit. Yadda yadda yadda, and now [livejournal.com profile] greensilver has four vids - more than anyone else, if I'm not mistaken. At first I was all like, god, that has to be embarrassing, seeing your request list go up on the community for a pinch hit, all sad and abandoned - but now I'm thinking, that totally should happen to you.)

A vid that made me add the source to my Netflix queue: Simon Says (Doomsday)

A vid that made me want to cheer and cry - and add the source to my Netflix queue: Past in Present (Chak De! India)

A vid that should have been cheesy as hell but actually made me cheer and cry anyway, though I will not be adding the source to my Netflix queue: One (Magnum PI)

A vid that is hot like burning: Body and Soul (Legend of the Seeker)

Okay? Now, ignore everything I just rec'd, and instead just go watch all the vids. Me, I'm off to Amazon.com so I can spend way too much money on music. (Yeah, that's right, I'm finally finally going to spend money on Adam Lambert. Yes, I am the last person in America to do so.)

I haven't commented to the vidder yet because I want to say something intelligent and not something 4 am like, but I absolutely adored your Profit vid, too. And it is totally a vid about how Adrian Pasdar is pretty.

You know, I had a song recently that I wanted to vid, and I thought Profit might be a good source for it, but then I thought, oh god, that must be such a hopeless talky-face fandom to vid. I have just been proven utterly wrong.

DOOMSDAY IS AMAZING I LOVE IT SO MUCH AND THAT VID IS BASICALLY A BULLET POINT LIST OF REASONS WHY.

I have watched so many vids and left feedback on all the ones I have watched! I don't think I've ever been such a vid-glutton like this, aaaah. AND THEY'RE ALL REALLY GOOD, TOO.

Yeah, I mean, there's not a vid in the list I'd consider less than, you know, "decent" - which is remarkable, and stunning, and hella wonderful. Even the people who had only done one vid before, as in that one case, did a remarkable job.
