And it was good!

My nonspoilery summation is that the Holmes/Watson relationship is everything a fangirl would wish for, Irene Adler is also awesome, and I pretty much expect to see much slash and OT3-ness from fandom.

I could have done with a little less action and a little more actual dialogue and deduction, and there were a couple of stylistic things that annoyed me, but on the whole, very enjoyable indeed.

Edit: A.O. Scott is kind of hilarious on the subject of the Holmes/Watson relationship and the introduction of Adler.

Scott's summation of the plot was worth the price of admission: "It seems that an evil aristocrat (Mark Strong), executed for a series of murders, returns from the dead to mobilize an ancient secret society that he may have time-traveled into a Dan Brown novel to learn about. Doesn’t that sound fascinating? I thought not."

I'd better see this soon before somebody explains what makes sense.

Speaking of Ms. Adler, the "Thieves of Sherlock Holmes" does not quite have the same resonance as the "Adventuresses of Sherlock Holmes." Probably lacks the appopriate silly song, too.
