If Caviezel runs true to form, you're not missing anything.

He's been in several movies -- Angel Eyes, which I reviewed last week, Frequency, and an indifferent version of The Count of Monte Cristo. In each of them he's a reactive actor: someone else does something and he reacts. He displays no inner energy, no incentive, nothing to fuel his behavior. Patrick McGoohan, who played the prisoner in the original, had the internal energy of a California fire, almost uncontainable, under his smooth exterior. But if McGoohan is fire, Caviezel is water; he may be a very nice man with pretty blue eyes, but as a screen actor he's all wet.

I'm sorry to hear about this, as I had been quite excited about the remake, since it seems like the creators really understand what the show is meant to be about.

Of course, I'd be happier if they went with their original casting: Christopher Eccleston. ::sigh::

gk -- sorry I haven't posted about it! All my info on the show so far has come from [personal profile] tzikeh.

Oh, he didn't refuse the role. This is a British/American co-production, and typically they decided they wanted an American in the part. Meh.

Fortunately, there's still Ian McKellan as Number Two, which should be utterly awesome. Everyone else in the cast is a Brit, which in my experience tends to suggest much better acting than you tend to get from Americans.

Maybe McKellan will drag Caviezel's acting up? *she says, hopefully* Although I don't think he was awful in either Frequency or The Count of Monte Cristo (the only two things I remember seeing him in), so hopefully he'll do OK at least. Still, now that I know we could've gotten Eccleston... Dagnabbit.

They dumped Eccleston for Caviezel? Oh, fer.

::flings up hands in disgust::

No wonder I hadn't heard any recent rumbling on my flist.
